SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail protection system, which is employed to confirm whether an email message was sent by an official server. Employing SPF protection for a given domain name will stop the counterfeiting of emails generated with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this function for a domain creates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which includes the IP addresses of the servers which are allowed to send e-mails from mail boxes using the domain. As soon as this record propagates globally, it exists on all the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Every time some e-mail message is sent, the initial DNS server it uses verifies whether it comes from an authorized server. In the event it does, it is sent to the destination address, but if it does not originate from a server listed in the SPF record for the domain, it's discarded. Thus nobody will be able to mask an e-mail address then make it look as if you are sending spam messages. This method is also known as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Website Hosting

SPF protection can be activated for any domain hosted in a website hosting account on our cloud platform with just a few mouse-clicks. The feature can be found in the Emails section of our amazing Hepsia Control Panel and what is needed to use it is to select one of your domain names from the drop-down list and then type in the hostnames and the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the e-mail servers which will be permitted to send email messages from your email addresses. As an additional option you can even restrict the email messages to be sent from your domain only when it has our MX records, in other words if our servers handle the e-mail addresses for it, not a third-party supplier. This solution gives you the best standard of safety, but it is not applicable if only your website is on our servers while your email addresses for the domain are managed somewhere else. Regardless, the SPF protection service will keep your emails protected from being used for spam and scam purposes.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia website hosting Control Panel, that comes with all our semi-dedicated hosting plans, provides you with an incredibly easy-to-use interface to activate the SPF protection service for each domain that you host inside your new account. Several clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia will be enough for that then you will only have to type in the hostname and the IP address of the mail server which will be allowed to send messages from your e-mail addresses. When the email messages are handled by us and not by a different provider, you're able to raise the security level even more and benefit from an option for all the outgoing emails to be sent only if your domain names feature our MX records. This option will give you more control and it will eliminate any possibility of anybody counterfeiting your emails with the intention of spamming and / or scamming people. It is not applicable if just your site is hosted on our outstanding cloud web hosting platform, while your emails are handled by another service provider. If you are not sure what options to select, our tech support team will assist you 24/7.
