If you want to point a domain that you have to some other domain address or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's directed to. That way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the site you have created, but it'll also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all of the visitors from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this type of a record created for the main domain name renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Website Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which our company offers with each and every website hosting plan, will allow you to set up CNAME records for any domain address or subdomain hosted in the account with just a few mouse clicks. If you're not sure how to go about it, you can check the video tutorial that is available within the CP, read the comprehensive Help article on the subject, or just simply contact us and we will help you 24/7, although it is not likely you'll experience any difficulties as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to choose a domain/subdomain, enter the hostname you're forwarding to, and save the modification. The new record is going to be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records allows you to have better control of your domain names and site content and our system is simple and user-friendly enough to allow people with no previous experience to set up this kind of records easily.

To create a new record, you only need to choose the hostname which will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), type in where it will be forwarded to, choose the record type, that'll be CNAME in this case, and you're going to be ready. In case you haven't used a web hosting service before, our CP is very intuitive to use, so you will not have any issues. We also have a short video and a detailed help article on how to create a CNAME record, both of which can be found in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this feature, you could easily use a domain address hosted on our innovative cloud hosting platform for a site created someplace else, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domains, and much more.
